About the Artist, Laurie Samuels
Laurie Williams Samuels lives in Memphis, Tennessee, with her husband Harry
and their two Aussies, Jack and Buzzy. She is a painter, gardener, and
interior designer for her family's business, Samuels Furniture and
Art was always important. As a child she attended Memphis College of Art Saturday school for lessons, as well as studying art
throughout high school.
Laurie graduated in 1980 with a degree in design from the University of
Mississippi. After working as an interior designer for many years, she
picked up her paintbrushes again eleven years ago. She began by studying
watercolors and then made a change over to acrylics and mixed media. This
allowed a new breakthrough in experimentation in her work, which continues
through today. Her paintings have won numerous awards both locally and
